wine notes

2014 43 Merlot

The Fruit:

The 2014 vintage produced excellent conditions with slightly above average rainfall, a cool winter and a dry spring, resulting in low yields, and perfect flavour profiles. Unlike the 2013 Merlot’s that had big structure the 2014 wines appear softer and juicer.

The Winemaking:

The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed before fermentation could begin in stainless steel tanks for approximately seven days. After malolactic fermentation was completed a portion of the wine was transferred to older American and French oak hogsheads for maturation for 9 months before blending and bottling.

The Comments:

Bright red in colour, this medium bodied wine has plenty of aromas and flavours of blueberry, plum and raspberries with hints of spice and vanilla. The perfectly balanced palate is soft, subtle and juicy. This wine is designed to be enjoyed within the next 3 years and is a great accompaniment to tomato based pasta dishes.

Deep red with vibrant purple hues. There are sweet fruit flavours on the nose, with aromas of cherries, raspberries and subtle spice. The soft and round tannins create a finely balanced palate, with the concentrated fruit flavours providing good length of flavour. Ready to drink now, it is best suited to pasta dished or barbequed lamb.
